The Peripatetic Writing Workshop Goes to Sicily
The Peripatetic Writers Workshop, Inc, meets March 10th - 17th, 2012 in Siracusa, Sicily. This beautiful, ancient city on the southeastern coast of Italy offers an inspired setting for creative work that is perfect for writers.
Treasured by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, Siracusa (Syracuse) is noted for natural beauty, historic sites, friendly citizens, and some say, the best food in Italy. Cicero described it as "the greatest Greek city and most beautiful of all." Founded by the Corinthians in 734 BC and one of the most ancient cities of the western Mediterranean, Siracusa retains vestiges of that time in the 5th Century BC Temple of Athena, a Greek theatre, a Roman amphitheatre, a fort and many other sites.
The historic district of Ortigia, where we stay, formed the nucleus of the ancient city. Pleasantly warm in March, it is a perfect place for escaping the winter cold.
The Peripatetic began as a summer writing intensive in 1991 on Shelter Island, NY, moved to Woodstock, NY, in 1994, then moved to Achill Island, Ireland, and in 2009, to Antigua, Guatemala. Following 3 years of successful programs in Antigua, the Peripatetic is living up to its name by relocating to Sicily in March 2012.
"Writing and receiving feedback amidst birds and fountains and cathedral bells was comforting, and the workshop was rigorous and respectful. I came away with exactly what I hoped for--specific feedback and direction for improving my draft. I also left with friends and lots of inspiration."
